Bridging Theory and Practice
As the lecturer in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, Emmolina accompanied her students on a site visit to the Tauranga Library redevelopment project, hosted by LT McGuinness Ltd. Despite the rainy weather, the visit offered an invaluable opportunity for students to engage with a live project team and observe construction practice firsthand.
The students gained insights into the complexities of project coordination and the translation of classroom theory into real-world delivery. Emmolina noted that experiences like this deepen student understanding in ways that traditional teaching cannot replicate, while also inspiring the next generation of construction professionals.
She emphasized that such industry engagement not only benefits learners but also strengthens the vital bridge between education and the construction industry.
